Today I finally made some time to make a watercolour sketch. On Skillshare I followed another video by Toby Haseler. In short, he takes the basic steps to achieve a satisfactory result, resulting in achieving a certain mood in a sketch. The emphasis is on simplicity and on working layer after layer. In the end, depth is created by accents and by using more intense colours. The colors will do their thing, have faith in it.
I first started by making some simple thumbnail sketches. This was actually a prelude to the real project. These thumbnail sketches are risk-free, quick and easy and it teaches you to still create a certain mood. Actually, not much can go wrong here. Just have fun.

The actual project was to sketch a coastline. I used the same techniques as with the thumbnails. When I was on a roll, I suddenly got the feeling that I was losing total control and that I had messed up. After a short break where the colors could settle down, I did the final finishes. I am quite happy with the result, as a teacher I would give myself a 6/10 for this. The water colours I use (Royal Talens) do not fully satisfy me. I feel like there’s not enough life in it, no depth. It’s hard to describe what, but something is missing.

In any case, it was again a nice experience and I was looking forward to it again. If you have any comments or tips, feel free to give them to me.
