At the beginning of January I announced that my first new fountain pen for this year was a fact. That is to say, she was ordered but temporarily out of stock. I also wanted to keep it a bit of a surprise of what I had ordered exactly… In the end, I didn’t receive the pen until this week.

My smile is worth 1000 words, so I can’t deny that I am very satisfied with my new acquisition … the BENU Skull and roses ☠🌹. This pen had actually been on my wish list for a while, but due to circumstances I didn’t take any further action. As a fountain pen enthusiast, you naturally like to browse around to see what the fountain pen market has to offer. In doing so, by chance or not, I regularly came back to the BENU Skull and Roses. In the end, I was so attracted by this edition that I made the decision to buy it.

Maybe I should briefly mention that I currently buy my fountain pens purely by feeling. Of course, I am guided by reviews from fellow pen enthusiasts, which really limits the chance of a bad purchase. At the moment I still have about 40 unboxed fountain pens. They are all waiting to be inked and put through their paces. Because of my pen rotation system, I’m limited to 8 fountain pens to rotate, so it all takes some time.

So not really a review of this pen at the moment, but let the pictures speak for themselves. 🙂

Can you, as a reader, recommend an ink that would go perfectly with this pen?

    That is a beautiful pen! BENUs are never boring, are they?
    Sorry, no ink suggestions. I don’t use red ink as a rule, and it seems like that pen needs red or black. I’ll be interested in hearing what ink you end up putting in it.

    Amazing discipline to leave those pens boxed. I have read of this pen, or one with similar design, before. I believe Danny may have one. Ink is usually black, green or red for my own choices. Blue from time to time. My nursing always meant use of black for patient notes and always used a fountain pen for writing these inclusions. Day to day charts meant a different choice of ballpoint. And the four coloured black, green, blue and red combination pens were ever present. I suppose I have just continued in these choices. Your artwork, I should imagine, means you go for a greater colour palette. All the best Pascal.

      Thanks four you comment Gray. I like to use different ink colours with my pens, even if they don’t match the pen. Due to a busy last week, I didn’t find the time to do some watercolour sketching, hopefully this week I can get back at it 🙂 Cheers!

    Such a beautiful pen! I love the unusual, eye catching designs Benu comes out with! I’ve had my eye on the Benu Talisman in Mandrake for a while, so I’m hoping I’ll get to add that to my collection soon.
    I hope you enjoy your new pen!

      Thank you. The Talisman has the glowing feature when exposed to light, just comparable with the BENU Briolette Luminous Blue that I own. BENU has indeed some eye catching designs, but still, they are quite expensive. But in case of doubt, I suggest …buy 🙂
