Peacock pens

Collecting fountain pens is a hobby that got out of hand, but in the last year I’ve managed to keep my purchase -let’s call it- obsession under control. What do I mean by this? When I started, I wanted to have as many pens as possible, in all colors and scents. This eventually led to the fact that I still own quite a few pens that do not really meet my expectations, which turned out to be a bad buy.

What did I learn from this? I really don’t buy pens with my eyes closed anymore. No more buying rush! I am critical and from now on they must be a real added value. As an example, I won’t buy Lamy Safari in different colours anymore because an additional yellow or green Safari is not really of added value. So actually I’m really looking for ‘special ones’, fountain pens that mean something for various reasons.

At the end of 2022 I found a special one, the Platinum Curidas. This fountain pen is a retractable fountain pen that I bought for 75 Euros. I hesitated for a long time to buy this pen because there were some problems here and there: cracks appeared and there would be some disturbing elements when holding the pen that make longer writing sessions unpleasant.

Under the motto who doesn’t dare doesn’t win, I took the risk and bought the fountain pen. To be honest, I have to admit that I am amazed by this pen. I caught myself unconsciously reaching for the pen at times, simply because the retractable system is so handy. The pen was sometimes in pen-unworthy conditions, in no way did it leak or let me down.

The system of disassembling the pen for cleaning is so ingeniously conceived, just great. I have seen several surprised looks from friends and colleagues when I gave a demo of the pen. There was also a lot of disbelief that this pen is sold for only 75 Euro.

The only drawback I noticed is that the pen is quite long when retracted. You have to take this into account when storing. The Curidas is equipped with a steel nib, in my case a medium. The writing performance is very good, and thanks to the well-functioning sealing mechanism, the pen does not dry out if you have not used it for a while.

The clear body of the pen nicely shows you the inner workings, highly recommended. I would recommend the pen to everyone and when asked if I would buy this pen again, I answer yes without a doubt. Meanwhile, the pen is sold in different colors. The matt black version seems so nice to me. What was my principle of the added value that I set in the beginning?…Ah yes, ok 🙂
